A New Story, 100 Years Old

St Albans Church, located on Melrose St, North Melbourne has been an unassuming part of the community for nearly 100 years. Built and owned by the Anglican Diocese of Melbourne since 1928, it has opened its iconic blue doors to church congregations, child care groups, community service organisations, medical centres, op shops and foodbank centres for a century.

After 18months of prayer & planning, this church will become the home of C3 Church Melbourne North in November 2026, having secured a lease of the entire building, where it is our hope that through the past, present and future generosity of our church members, we will give this hidden catherdral a new lease of life and a new chapters in its rich story of legacy.

Building Renovations

St Albans definitely has 'character' & 'charm', which means it is need of some significant TLC. Through consultation with building surveryors, architects and engineers we have submitted plans to update some of the facility to ensure it is safe and functional for our church family.

The proposed works include:

  • Asbestos Removal - It's an inevitable part of renovating an old building especially works completed in the 60s, 70s and 80s. Those retro vibes are not that chill.
  • Replace Ceilings - The architectural arched ceilings are a beautiful feature of St Albans, the same can't be said for the other internal ceilings, made of cement sheets, masonite or canite (compressed sugar cane, yep the 60s was wild), this will be replaced along with the lighting.
  • Upgrade of Electrical Board & Emergency Lighting - Safety is paramount, and ensuring the electrical system meets modern standards is essential.
  • Upgrade of existing bathrooms - The toilets, well let's just say made a port-a-loo seem like a reasonable option.

This is the works to be completed by licensed contractors. After this it is time for the church to roll up its sleeves and get to work painting, flooring, decorating, furnishing and all things necessary to make an 100 year old church feel like home.

Giving Campaign

Committing to a whole building lease and a renovation project is a big commitment for a small church. Thankfully, through the stewardship of our Board, we are positioned to step out in both faith and wisdom. However, this moment in our church's story is an opportunity for every person in our church to give generously into what we pray will become a legacy not just for our church but the Kingdom of God in the community of North Melbourne.

Our goal is to raise the finance to cover the renovation items listed above, allowing us to allocate reserved funds to making St Albans feel like a home for C3 Church Melbourne.

Before you give:

  1. Pray - Through prayer we invite the leading of the Holy Spirit. He may lead each of us differently but a good indication is to ask if where He leads requires faith on our behalf.
  2. Discuss - For those married, chat with your spouse, be in unity. One way the Holy Spirit leads us is through our partner.
  3. Ask - If you have any questions please ask our lead pastors who are always willing to answer your queries.
  4. See - If you haven't had a chance to visit the site, its recommended you stop by any Saturday between now and when you give. Take a moment to get a sense of the space and capture its heart to serve the community.
